It's been a while

  • Oct. 18th, 2009 at 7:03 PM

I been ages since I last posted, I know. shame on me, but it's not like haven't been writing at all! I've just been hitting up penzu.com a lil bit more these days, besides I have to say the layout kind of appeals to me more. </excuses>

Anyhow, I felt like coming back to LJ for a bit, just to see what was going down, nothing's changed really as far as I can see, but I don't see why I can't be more active, here anyway. I'll give it a go.

I'm planning on getting stuck into writing fanfiction for a bit. I've tried before, but you know how I am, I kinda got bored. This time with be different hopefully, I have a new laptop and lovely music to keep me going, not to mention a bunch of ideas.

Wow my hands really are cold. Writing's always easier in the summer. DX

Oh and in case anyone's interested, I came across an interesting writing tool called 'write or die', it's a) humourous and b) it actually kind of makes me want to write, witch is always a bonus I guess. Google that and check it out.

Do I have news for you...?

  • Jun. 24th, 2007 at 10:28 PM

Nope, sorry.

Not much to deliver, only that I have an amazingly bad cold and I'm about 5000 words behind on my SuWriMos story.

Actually, today hasn't been all that bad, I composed the start of a song, and I got a hell of a lot of inspiration from my cousin, who is a total brain box.

Wanna hear some interesting tit bits? hmm? Well apparently, we as humans have only explored about 3% of the oceans. Can you imagine that? I mean, think about it. There could potentially be an extremely intelligent race of sea creatures living in huge cities under the sea, but we skipped all that and went on to exploring space instead. XD

Oh and this was my favourite. Our brains...are just about perfect. We just don't know how to use them properly. XD I mean the brain does maths faster than any calculator, if you want to balance something on your head the calculations are done in a couple of milliseconds down to thousands of decimal points. The problem is...our bodies aren't nearly as efficient and so the perfect calculation is useless if you don't know how to use the answer! Amazing huh?

Anyway, I must go now. Bye!

I've got it!

I finally know what I'm doing for the SuWriMos. A feudal age fantasy with elves nymphs and other mystical creatures, that’s what it’ll be about. Like I've mentioned before, it’s my first so I can't guarantee it'll be good, but hey who's expecting that from me anyway. =3

I have pretty much all my main characters fleshed out and I think I know how I'm going to start it off, but...wait for it...I have no plot! Okay that's not totally true, actually, I do have something akin to a conflict, and maybe a few twists, but that's all really. What I really need is an interesting direction to move in, an ending. I figure its not all that important now, but if I can just get a little something onto paper/computer before June 1st I should be okay.

My word count target for the event is set at 75k words, I have calculated that I'll need to do an average of about 820 words (woah that’s a lot) a day. Problem is, I still have exams until the 22nd of June so I doubt I'll be able to write that much. I really want to finish this though so it’s just a matter of cutting out all the laziness in my life.

It’s gonna be hard. Wish me luck.

The NaNoWriMo and SuWriMos events.

Okay so I'm going crazy over these two amazing events. I found out about the National Novelists Writing month last year when one of my favourite fanfiction writers decided to take part. Due to my lack of writing experience and planning I was un-equiped and unable to take part,  but this year I have decided that I will.

Also there is the Gaia Summer Writing months event, which isn't as well known as the NaNoWriMo but it will, I think, make a good warm up for the real event.

So for those who don't know, the NaNoWriMo is an event in which writers from all around the world, novice or experienced, aim to write a 50000 word story in the 30 days of November. The SuWriMos, hosted by those cool writers on Gaia-online, spans over 3 months, from the 1st of June to the 30th of August. The target word count is set by the writer.

I think both are going to be amazing to take part in, I will aim for the full 50 000 in November and I have set myself a target of 75000 words for  the summer.  I've already started thinking about the plots, I think the summer one will be...a fanfic. A kingdom hearts fanfic. That one'll be for practice purposes mainly. X3 In November I'm gonna go for the whole whammy. I'm gonna write a fantasy story from scratch (with the help of random generators. ^^;). It'll be so much fun. My sisters is even going to participate. X3

Anyway, that was just an update...bye!

P.S.  Plus its also a great reason for me to splash out on that new laptop. XD

The beauty of random generators.

I have just discovered a great tool...the random generator. (no prizes for guessing that X3). So there I was researching CSS so I can make stuff for people and I found a neat little site. It was a randomly generated site. Well, more like the style was randomly generated. Every time you refresh the page, the design of the site changes, and I thought; awesome. What a great idea. X3 So I was thinking of someways I could incorporate these designs into my own website when I saw THE link. The link that would take me to the ultimate random generator sites.

http://nine.frenchboys.net/
http://www.leonatkinson.com/random/index.php/index.html
http://www.seventhsanctum.com/

...There are more but I'm too lazy to add them X3

This site had generators for character names; real and fantasy. It could generate outfit designs and character profiles. They weren't all great, as can be expected from a random process but some of them were pretty decent. So I kept exploring and I found more generators. Those that churned out lines of song lyrics, chord progressions, band names, even Jokes. XD (I have to say some of the band names that thing came up with were akin to jokes in themselves, I mean, My Rasta, Green Bitch-slap. XD I couldn't stop laughing. )

Yeah so anyway I figured that these generators are great prompts for anything creative; stories, songs, band names. XD I'll be sure to use them in my fan fiction writing and possibly some song development too. X3

Anyways I'm out =3

Motivation

Hahaha Hi! Its me feeling happy for once. X3 I've been doing some fun stuff lately, like 3D modeling on the computer, learning HTML and CSS (still XD), and when I'm done with that I'm gonna make a few animated icons for my soon-to-be-in-existence website inspired by...ME! X3

But at the same time I have a lot of other stuff to do, I mean for one thing I have to study cause there's no way I'm gonna get bad grade on my final exams. I'm still practicing my guitar everyday and my friend just keep lending me video games. o_O Yeah I'm loved. XD

It gonna take some time and effort to get through all these things but I reckon I can do it. When summer break comes around, boy am I gonna relax. I can freak out about going to university in August. XD

This short and relatively pointless entry has been from ~Appollochan~ XD (I just haven't written here in so long, I had to update)

YouTube = Great

I am a YouTube lover. I swear that site is excellent, it has opened a whole new world to me.

Now I got the internet about five or six months ago and since then you tube has been one of my favorite sites. The reason I think I like it so much may be because it helps me in a number of ways. It great for learning guitar that's for sure. I took up guitar only a little while before I got the internet. I did okay but the motivation may have been lacking slightly, but upon discovering YouTube it re-appeared.

I was able to watch professionals and non-professionals alike, jamming away on they're axes just like I wanted to. Up until then I had never seen a guitar being played up close. o_O

Another great thing about YouTube is the fact that everything is there, in one place. I can watch my favorite animes without having to wait ten years for it to download. I can watch comedy videos that creative innovators have uploaded. I can discover music and art that I never would have even come across before. Heck I can even showcase my talents to the world if I want too.

So yeah,  mellow entry I know, but necessary none the less. YouTube is awesome. Just wanna put that out there.

For those who watch Death note.

I seriously need to vent. Watch episode 25 and you'll know what I'm talking about. (Unless you read the manga of course XD). I just  want to point out that Death note has suddenly jumped to the top of my fandom list and is now side by side with Kingdom hearts. Therefore I will start writing Death note fan fiction as well as the KH stuff. (I went crazy after that episode).

Thank you that is all. X3

P.S. I dun care what anyone says, there was blatant shonen-ai in that episode >_o or maybe I'm just pervy...yeah its probably the latter. XD

Writing Challenges XD

Writing challenges are great in my opinion, they really get the mind working. I find that if I'm suffering from that dreaded writers block, I visit one of my favourite sites for writing challenges and prompts.

So I was browsing yesterday and came across this challenge;

"Write a pure dialogue story. Make your story move along by using dialogues *only* no narration, no description…just dialogues." - from http://www.creativewritingprompts.com.

And I came up with a little dialogue driven KH drabble.

I thought it would be difficult at first, I mean I was like "What? no discription!?" o_O but it was actualy pretty fun, it made me think a lot about how the characters were acting and what they were thinking. Basically it meant I had to convey their state of mind and feeling through their words alone, it took some figuring out but I think I actualy liked the result. Maybe I'll try it out again sometime.

~Appollochan~

P.S. You know, I'm thinking of making my own writing challenges. They'll probably be more specific to particular fandoms and genres but still...

"She used all the freakin' grapes!?"

Okay so my first ever post on Live journal turns out to be a rant. It's kind of a shame but I need to vent, seriously.  ( >_>)
Alright I'm sure a lot of people out there have little sisters. Whether they're the nice, best friend, quiet type or the crazy, may-as-well-be-the-devil kind. I for one am related to the latter, though she may seem like an angel in public. She has a habit of thinking that she rules the world and that she is entitled to everything she can get her hands on.

A couple of days ago she announced to the family that she needed to make fruit salad in her food tech class. Okay I can deal with that, but what I can't deal with is when she takes two freakin' cartons of juice with her, along with a couple of oranges, apples and bags of grapes! That's right two bags of freakin' grapes, the one fruit I love so much that I have to ask before I eat them, and she waltzes in and hauls pretty much all the fruit in the house to school to make this 'fruit salad'. (On that note I would just like to mention that I've made fruit salad before and it does NOT need that much fruit D=<).

So she came back from school that day opens up the container with the fruit salad in it and WHAT THE HELL! POMEGRANATES!? I can't stand pomegranates and she went and pour half a carton of pomegranate juice into the fruit salad. Apparently she swapped for it with her friend, she took all that fruit to school and she still wanted more D=< . I didn't even get to eat any cause it smelt nasty, half of it got wasted. T_T

Okay so I may be over reacting but I love fruit to bits, If my mother buys fruit she has to tell me not to eat it other wise there would be none left the next day. But seriously my sister annoys me to the core, but you know the funny thing is? Tomorrow we'll be like best friends again chatting about useless junk. I may even buy her candy but the day after I know I'll regret it again.

Oh well let me end with a cliché saying. Umm... aha! "Sisters. Can't live with 'em,  Can't live without 'em" wow that was really cliché. XD
